STUDENT LEARNING COMES FIRST
In creating this lesson we began with defined learning goals and correlations to the North Carolina Standard Course of Study, North Carolina Instructional Technology Essential Standards and ISTE standards for both teachers and students.
PEDAGOGICAL APPROACH
The focus of this lesson was to not only have students recognize rhetorical devices in context, but to have students engage with and analyze the text to understand the effect these devices have in text and literature. To achieve this goal, students will demonstrate a clear understanding through use of rhetorical devices in their own writing and creation of a product that may be used to provide further clarity for other students.

WHAT'S THE POINT?
- The pre-reading activity provides an opportunity to share opinions and prior knowledge.
- Jigsawing the text provides an opportunity for more of the text to be covered.
- Project choice board provides differentiated assignments to cover different learning styles.
WHICH TOOLS TO USE?
- All tools used are web based applications that can be used on all devices with internet access.
- Short instruction reminders were printed and placed at each table to allow students to view the directions while in the application.
CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT TIPS
- Alphabet cards provided random grouping with ease.
- Assignment of roles shared the responsibility of keeping students on task and focus on completion.
- Modeled technology management tips during "non-technology" portions of the lesson.
BEST PRACTICES
- Evaluate what the technology you have chosen brings to the lesson to ensure it is the best technology or even needed for the lesson.
- Consider using ALL technology used in this lesson in smaller ways BEFORE this activity so students do not feel overwhelmed by the technology and can focus on the LEARNING.
